WMU Campus Utilities

Mr. Pete Strazdas: Director of Maintenance Services

Mr. Dale Sheppard: Electrical Manager, Building Systems and Utility Administration.

Mr. Dan Brimmer: Electrical Engineer.

Mr. Gregory Roseboom: Manager of Plumbing and Mechanical Utilities, Building Systems, and Utility Administration. Building Performance Team Leader.

W.M.U. Campus Utilities to Over 100 Buildings on and off campus consisting of:

  • 13.40 miles of underground electrical cable
  • 2.20 miles of overhead electrical cable
  • 13.73 miles of underground steam and condensate
  • 16.34 miles of underground water mains
  • 15.86 miles of underground sanitary sewer
  • 6.92 miles of underground stormsewer
  • 5.20 miles of underground natural gas

Water is provided by the city of Kalamazoo. Gas is provided by Consumers Energy. Steam and electric energy for the central campus comes from a coal/gas co-generated power plant owned by W.M.U.. Effective management and operation of these systems is critical to providing a positive environment in which the university can carry on its main mission of education and research efficiency.
