Home/Dorm

  • Adjust the room temperature when you are leaving a space for an extended period of time.
  • Use space heaters only when necessary and turn them off when not in the room.
  • Opening and closing a window to adjust the temperature affects more than just your space.
  • Unplug electrical office appliances when possible. Cell phone chargers, laptop chargers and other battery charging devices continue to use electricity even when not in use.
  • Shut your computer down. Standby and hibernate modes still use power when it is often unnecessary.
  • Turn off the lights when you are not in the room.
  • Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. CFL light bulbs use up to 75% less energy. CFL light bulbs are available for purchase at the bookstore at a discount price.
  • Purchase Energy Star appliances
  • Be sure when organizing a space that you are not covering any vents. Better air flow means better temperature control.
  • Automatic door switches and elevators are intended for handicap use only. Take the stairs whenever possible.
