NEW! : Facilities Management Department
On April 27, 2009 Western Michigan University integrated the Physical
Plant and Campus Facility Development departments and created the Facilities Management Department.
This provides a one-stop shop for all facility needs.
The Department will have 4 divisions.
Planning, Engineering, Projects, and Operations.
More information on the organization culture and structure is forthcoming as the new organization is engaged in a visioning process.
The Facilities Management Department provides service to students, faculty, staff and visitors
to support the University's mission and goals. The new department places emphasis on quality
service and sustainability. The professional employees design, construct and maintain
facilities to meet current and evolving needs and to ensure a safe, healthy and attractive environment.
In addition to the planning, construction and renovation of University facilities,
our staff is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the buildings,
grounds, vehicles, and utility systems. We employ nearly 469 people who manage
over 8 million square feet of university space, 1,200 acres, 49 miles of utilities,
65.5 miles of sidewalk and roadways, and dispatch 75 million KWh of electricity and 510 million pounds of steam per year.
Our focus is on quality improvement and being good stewards of the University's limited resources.
